For irregularly shaped workpieces, shims or auxiliary supports can be added to enhance stability.


During the drilling process, pay attention to the selection and application of cutting fluid. Cutting fluid can effectively lower the temperature of the drill bit, reduce friction, and improve the quality of the hole wall. It is generally recommended to use emulsions or synthetic cutting fluids, and replenish or replace them regularly according to the processing volume.

Ii. Daily Maintenance and Troubleshooting


Regular maintenance is the key to ensuring the efficient operation of vertical drilling machines. It is recommended to clean the chips and oil stains on the surface of the equipment after each shift and check whether the lubrication system is working properly. Apply lubricating oil to key parts such as the main shaft and guide rails every week to ensure that the moving parts are flexible and free from jamming.


Common faults include decreased drilling accuracy, abnormal noise or overheating of the main shaft, etc. If a large deviation in the hole position is found, it may be caused by loose main shaft or worn guide rail. It is necessary to adjust or replace the components in time. Abnormal noises usually result from loose drive belts or damaged bearings. The machine should be stopped for inspection. If the main shaft overheats, it may be due to insufficient lubrication or excessive load. In such cases, the feed rate should be reduced or lubricating oil replenished.


Equipment that has not been used for a long time should be treated for rust prevention and covered with a cloth for storage.

Iii. Methods for Improving Processing Efficiency


Improving the efficiency of vertical drilling machines not only depends on the equipment itself, but is also closely related to the process planning. Here are a few practical suggestions:


1. Plan the processing sequence reasonably: For multi-hole workpieces, prioritize processing the reference holes and then use the reference to position other holes to reduce the time for repeated clamping.


2. Select appropriate cutting tools: Choose the type of drill bit based on the hardness of the material. For example, hard alloy drill bits are suitable for high-strength steel. Regularly grind or replace the passivated drill bit to maintain cutting efficiency.


3. Optimize cutting parameters: Under the premise of ensuring quality, appropriately increasing the rotational speed and feed rate can shorten the single-hole processing time. However, it is necessary to avoid causing the drill bit to break or the workpiece to be damaged due to excessive pursuit of speed.


4. Reduce auxiliary time: Preparing tools and fixtures in advance and using quick mold changing devices can significantly reduce non-processing time.

Iv. Safety Precautions


When operating a vertical drilling machine, safety should be given top priority. Be sure to wear protective glasses and gloves properly to avoid injury from chips or coolant splashing. When the equipment is in operation, do not directly clean the chips or adjust the workpiece by hand. The emergency stop button should remain reliable and effective, and the electrical circuits should be inspected regularly to ensure they are in good condition.


Operators need to undergo basic training and be familiar with the performance of the equipment and operating procedures. For beginners, it is recommended to practice step by step under the guidance of experienced personnel.


V. Cost Control and Resource Utilization


In actual production, cost control is also an important link. The energy consumption of vertical drilling machines mainly comes from the spindle motor. The power consumption can be reduced by avoiding no-load operation and reasonably selecting processing parameters. Cutting fluid and lubricating oil should be used in accordance with the recommended proportion to avoid waste.


When purchasing consumables such as drill bits, it is necessary to focus on cost performance. There is no need to blindly pursue high-priced products, but one should also be vigilant about the efficiency loss and quality risks caused by inferior cutting tools. In the local market, there are many suppliers offering tools of stable quality, and you can choose according to your actual needs.


If a major malfunction occurs in the equipment, the cost difference between self-repair and professional services should be evaluated before maintenance.
