After the chuck of the drilling and milling machine is replaced, ‌ must be debugged ‌ to ensure the machining accuracy, clamping stability and equipment safety. Even if the new chuck is installed in place, it may still affect the processing quality due to assembly errors, concentricity deviations or uneven clamping force. Direct use may lead to workpiece scrapping, tool damage or even spindle damage.

I. Debug core projects

Spindle runout accuracy detection ‌

Fix the dial indicator or micrometer on the machine tool worktable, and keep the measuring head vertically against the inner hole or outer circle surface at the front end of the chuck.

Manually rotate the main shaft slowly for one full circle and observe the maximum offset of the pointer.

Qualified standard ‌ : the runout should generally be controlled within the range of ‌0.01 to 0.03mm‌, and for high-precision processing, it should be ≤0.01mm.

If the tolerance is exceeded, the cleanliness of the chuck taper handle, the wear of the spindle taper hole or reassembly and adjustment should be checked.

Clamping force verification ‌

Install a standard tool holder or drill bit and try to apply radial force by hand to shake it. There should be no sense of looseness.

Low-speed idling tests (such as 500 to 1000rpm) can be conducted to observe if there is any abnormal vibration or noise.

It is recommended to conduct a trial cut before high-load cutting and gradually increase the rotational speed and feed rate.

Chuck clamping consistency check ‌

Insert tools of different diameters into the chuck and check whether the three jaws are clamped synchronously.

If there is a phenomenon of unilateral tightness or slippage, it may be due to jacket wear or internal thread damage. The matching components need to be replaced in time.

Ⅱ. Common Problems and Responses

Problem phenomenonPossible causeProcess mode
The chuck vibrates greatly when idlingThe cone handle was not cleaned thoroughly and was not installed properlyRemove it, clean it again and install it properly
The tool is not firmly clamped and slipsJacket wear and failure of the clamping mechanismCheck the wear of the inner wall of the jacket and replace the damaged parts
Difficult to disassembleIt was installed without applying anti-seizing agent and was seized due to long-term high temperatureUse the "tap + reverse" method to gently shake and loosen it. Avoid prying it hard
