When beginners first come into contact with equipment, they are very likely to fall into traps in aspects such as precision cognition, operation habits, and maintenance and selection. These misunderstandings can not only affect processing accuracy at the very least, but also cause safety hazards at the worst. The following are common misunderstandings that beginners often encounter when starting out:

Ⅰ. Misunderstandings in Precision Cognition

Misconception 1‌ : It is believed that turret milling machines can only perform rough machining and cannot complete precision machining. In fact, for high-quality turret milling machines that meet national standard requirements, the radial runout of the spindle can be controlled within 0.005mm, and the flatness error of the worktable within a 300mm stroke is ≤0.010mm. It is fully capable of achieving micron-level precision processing.

Misconception 2‌ : Believing that the body structures of all turret milling machines are homogeneous with minimal differences in rigidity. In fact, the casting process of the machine body, stress relief treatment and the design of the rib plate structure are the core factors that determine the vibration resistance and service life of the equipment. The rigidity gap between high-end and low-end models is very obvious.

Ⅱ. Misunderstandings in Practical Operation

Misconception 1‌ : Blindly heavy-load cutting while ignoring the rigidity limit of the equipment. Long-term overloading processing will accelerate the deformation of castings and the wear of lead screws, significantly shortening the service life of equipment.

Misconception 2‌ : Mixing non-standard tools without checking the coaxiality of the tools. Tools that do not meet the coaxiality standard will directly cause vibration marks and precision deviations in the processed products.

Misconception 3‌ : Operating a rotating spindle while wearing gloves, or directly cleaning iron filings with hands during the processing. Such operations are highly likely to cause safety accidents such as hand entanglement and iron filings cuts.

Misconception 4‌ : Change the spindle speed without stopping and directly force the reversing handle. It will seriously damage the main shaft gear and feed worm gear, causing irreversible damage to the transmission components.

Ⅲ. Maintenance and Upkeep Misunderstandings

Misconception 1‌ : Neglecting daily lubrication and maintenance, the three-axis guide rails and transmission components are chronically short of oil. It will increase the frictional resistance of components, causing rapid attenuation of equipment accuracy. The annual attenuation rate of equipment accuracy that is properly maintained can be controlled within 5%.

Misconception 2‌ : Blowing the internal bearings of the main shaft directly with compressed air. It will blow iron filings and dust into the interior of the bearing, causing rapid wear of the bearing and excessive runout of the main shaft.

Misconception 3‌ : Not removing the main shaft belt when the machine is shut down for a long time. This will cause the belt to remain in a tensioned state for a long time, resulting in permanent deformation and problems such as slippage and abnormal noise during subsequent operation.

Ⅳ. Misunderstandings in Selection and Procurement

Misconception 1‌ : Blindly pursuing large models, believing that the larger the model, the better the performance. It will cause unnecessary waste of procurement costs and daily energy consumption. The best choice is a model that suits one's own processing needs.

Misconception 2‌ : Choosing low-end models only based on low prices. The body of this type of equipment has not undergone sufficient stress relief treatment. Within half a year, its accuracy will decline and the body will deform. Long-term use will instead significantly increase the costs of rework and maintenance.
