I. Clarify the processing object: Start from the "three elements"
Before selecting the type, it is necessary to clearly define the characteristics of the workpiece you are going to process:
Size range
Maximum processing diameter : common specifications range from Φ20mm to Φ300mm. For instance, if the diameter of the motor shaft to be processed is Φ45mm, a model with a maximum rotational diameter of ≥Φ50mm should be selected.
Maximum processing length : The mainstream models cover 500mm to 3000mm. For extra-long shafts (such as wind turbine main shafts), an extended bed model should be selected, such as the CZ6163×3000 type.
Material properties
Soft materials such as aluminum alloy and copper can be selected with high-speed spindles (>3000rpm).
For hard materials such as stainless steel and alloy steel, it is recommended that the spindle speed be controlled within 2000rpm and be equipped with a high-torque spindle (≥5.5kW).
Accuracy requirements
Common hardware parts: Tolerance ±0.05mm, IT8 grade precision is sufficient.
High-precision scenarios such as medical devices and motor shafts: IT7 grade or above is required, with a repeat positioning accuracy of ≤±0.01mm.
Ⅱ. Core Performance Parameters: Determine processing quality and efficiency
| Parameters | Recommended limit | Explain |
| Spindle speed | 200–3000rpm | It covers most metal cutting scenarios. High speed is suitable for light cutting, while low speed and heavy load are suitable for hard materials |
| Spindle power | ≥5.5kW | It ensures heavy cutting capacity and is especially suitable for processing high-strength alloys |
| Guide rail type | Linear rail or steel-inlaid hard rail | Linear guides feature high speed and high precision. Hard rails have strong rigidity and good vibration resistance, making them suitable for heavy loads |
| Numerical control system | Siemens, Fanuc, GSK, KND | The mainstream system has strong compatibility, is easy to program and has wide maintenance support |
| Turret configuration | Double tool turret + Y-axis power head | Supports turning and milling compound processing, reduces secondary clamping, and enhances integration |
Ⅲ. Automation Integration Capability: Upgrading towards intelligent production lines
If you are planning an automated production line, the scalability of the equipment is of vital importance
Automatic loading and unloading interface
Supports linkage with gantry trusses, manipulators and AGVs to achieve unmanned production.
For small-batch production, semi-automatic feeding racks can be selected. For large-batch production, it is recommended to configure a fully automatic feeding system.
Online detection and compensation function
High-end models are equipped with laser probes or probe systems to monitor dimensions in real time and automatically compensate for errors, reducing the rate of defective products.
Digital Twin and Remote Operation and Maintenance
Choose a brand that supports device networking and status monitoring to facilitate future integration with MES/ERP systems and the construction of an intelligent factory.
