As a core high-precision equipment in the fields of mechanical manufacturing and mold processing, the standardized operation of vertical machining centers not only directly determines the accuracy and yield of processed workpieces, but also relates to the personal safety of operators and the long-term stable operation of the equipment. Many safety accidents occur due to the negligence of operational details and the disregard for procedures. Therefore, establishing standardized full-process operation habits is an essential skill for every operator.

Ⅰ. Before Operation: From protection to inspection, build the first line of defense for safety

Personal protection before taking up a post is the prerequisite for all operations. Operators must wear well-fitting and tight-fitting work clothes, with all cuffs, collars and HMS tightly fastened. It is strictly prohibited to wear scarves, ties, rings, bracelets or other accessories that can be easily caught in rotating parts. Long hair must be completely tied up and tucked into the work cap. Gloves must not be worn throughout the operation of the machine tool panel and rotating parts. Wet hands must not touch any electrical switches or operation buttons.

After completing personal protection, a systematic pre-startup inspection of the equipment should be carried out: First, confirm that the power supply voltage and frequency meet the rated requirements of the equipment, the grounding is firm and reliable, and there are no signs of damage or aging on the cables. Subsequently, check that the oil level in the lubricating oil tank and the cutting fluid level are within the normal scale range, and that there is no blockage or leakage in the oil circuit and cooling pipeline. A consumption of 1-2 liters of lubricating oil every ten days is the reference standard for the normal operation of the lubrication system. Then confirm that the air source pressure meets the equipment parameter requirements, there is no air leakage in the pneumatic components, and the interlocking devices of the machine tool guard and guard door are in good working condition. Finally, clear all debris from the workbench surface. It is strictly forbidden to place blanks, hand hammers, wrenches or other irrelevant heavy objects on the guide rail surface or the workbench to avoid the risk of collision during subsequent operation.

Ⅱ. Startup and Preheating: Follow the sequence to ensure the equipment smoothly enters the state

When starting up, the fixed sequence must be strictly followed: First, turn on the main power switch of the machine tool, wait for the equipment to complete the self-check, then turn on the power of the numerical control system. After entering the operation interface, confirm that all indicator lights are displayed normally. Subsequently, perform the operation of returning the X, Y, and Z axes to the reference points. Before returning to zero, confirm in advance that there are no obstacles within the travel range of each axis, and clear the residual coordinate data from the previous operation.

After the return to zero is completed, start the idle running program. Idle for 5 to 10 minutes in summer and 10 to 20 minutes in winter to allow the main shaft, guide rails and other components to fully preheat. The running time at low and medium speeds should not be less than 2 to 3 minutes. Throughout the process, observe whether the movement of each axis is smooth, and whether there are any abnormal sounds or jamming phenomena. After confirming that all components such as the hydraulic gauge, cooling fan and hydraulic chuck are working normally, Then proceed to the subsequent operation stages.

Ⅲ. Workpiece and Tool Clamping: Details determine processing safety

Before clamping the workpiece, first check the dimensional accuracy and surface condition of the workpiece to confirm that there are no cracks, deformations or other defects. Select the appropriate fixture based on the shape, size and processing requirements of the workpiece to ensure accurate positioning references and moderate clamping force. This not only prevents the workpiece from loosening and being thrown out but also avoids deformation of the workpiece due to excessive clamping force. During the clamping process, it is strictly forbidden to keep your hands in the fixture's travel range for a long time. Make sure the workpiece is completely fixed before removing your hands. It is absolutely prohibited to adjust the workpiece or fixture during the processing.

Before changing the cutting tool, the spindle rotation must be stopped first and the spindle box moved to a safe position. Carefully inspect the tool holder for any cracks, deformations, excessive wear or other issues. Use special tools to load and unload the tool. It is strictly forbidden to hold the cutting part of the tool directly by hand. Do not use electric tools to tighten or remove the tool holder. After installation is completed, use the tool setting tool to check the position. When changing the blade, you must first exit the corresponding tool compensation value to avoid parameter errors during subsequent operation.

Ⅳ. Program Verification and Processing Operation: Full-process monitoring to eliminate risks

For new programs or programs with complex processes, trajectory verification must first be completed in the simulation operation mode to ensure that the working coordinate system, tool length compensation code, and Z value parameters are all accurate and error-free. It is strictly prohibited to directly import them into automatic operation without verification. When running the program for the first time, adjust the feed ratio to the low speed position, execute the program in single segments, and observe throughout the process whether the tool path is reasonable. After confirming that there is no risk of tool collision, gradually increase the ratio.

During the processing, operators are strictly prohibited from leaving their posts. They must not do anything unrelated to the operation, such as scrolling through their mobile phones or chatting idly. They should closely monitor the status changes of the spindle speed, feed rate and cutting sound throughout the process. It is absolutely forbidden to open the protective door. When the spindle is rotating, they must not reach out to clean the iron filings to prevent the splashing of chips and coolant from injuring people. If any abnormal conditions such as unusual noises, vibrations or smoke are detected, press the emergency stop button immediately, cut off the power source and check for faults. Do not force the equipment to continue processing when it is in an abnormal state.

Ⅴ. Closing and Maintenance: Standardize shutdown to extend equipment lifespan

After processing is completed, first stop the spindle and cooling system, move each axis to a safe parking position, then turn off the power of the numerical control system and the operation panel in sequence, and finally cut off the main power supply of the machine tool. It is strictly forbidden to directly pull down the main power supply to force the machine to shut down. Then wipe the surface of the machine tool, clean the residual iron filings in the worktable and the gaps of the guide rails, remove the debris and oil stains on the ground around the machine tool, and add lubricating oil to each lubrication point as required. The U-shaped tool should be lubricated with grease once a day.

The first piece processed on the same day must undergo dimensional inspection. Only after confirming its qualification can it be mass-produced. After the first piece passes the inspection, the operator is not allowed to modify the confirmed program at will. When changing shifts, the shift handover record must be filled out truthfully, indicating the operating status of the equipment, remaining processing tasks and problems to be investigated. Regularly carry out first-level maintenance on the equipment, thoroughly clean the internal dirt, replace the aged cutting fluid, replace the backup battery of the system, regularly inspect the sensors and nozzles of the automatic fire extinguishing device, remove the adhering chips and impurities, and avoid fire hazards.

There is no such thing as a "trivial matter" in the safe operation of vertical machining centers. Every standardized inspection and every rigorous operation step are safeguarding personal safety, ensuring the service life of the equipment, and guaranteeing processing accuracy. Only by internalizing the procedures as daily operation habits can high-precision equipment continuously and stably create value and achieve the unity of safe production and efficient production.
