The disassembly and installation of the tool rest of a common lathe mainly include loosening the fixing nuts, removing the old tool rest, measuring the key dimensions, installing the new tool rest and fixing it, etc. During the operation, it is necessary to ensure that the dimensions match, avoid hitting with hard objects, and keep it clean and lubricated to ensure safety and accuracy .
Disassembly steps
1. Loosen the fixing nuts : Use a wrench to loosen the 4 or 2 fixing nuts (the exact number depends on the lathe model) connecting the tool rest to the middle drag plate.
2. Remove the tool rest : Raise both hands upwards or use lifting tools to withdraw the tool rest from the nut. Pay attention to the protruding structure of the groove (limit structure) to avoid excessive force causing deformation.
3.Measure key dimensions : Record the diameter of the tool rest convex circle (e.g. 70mm for CA6140 lathe) and the center distance between two sets of screw holes (e.g. 150mm) for subsequent matching of new tool rests.
Installation procedure
Prepare a new tool rest : Select a matching tool rest based on the measured dimensions. If necessary, increase the screw holes to ensure flexible installation.
Positioning tool rest : Move the small drag plate forward for operation, align the new tool rest with the raised structure in the groove of the middle drag plate, and ensure that the limits are aligned.
Fixed tool rest : First, tighten the nut by hand, then use a wrench to evenly fasten it to avoid tilting due to force on one side.
Adjust position : After installation, manually rotate the tool rest to ensure smooth rotation without any jamming. If necessary, fine-tuning the tightness of the nut.
Matters need attention
Safe operation : Do not strike with hard objects when disassembling to prevent deformation of parts; Clean the contact surface before installation to avoid iron filings remaining and affecting the accuracy.
Size matching : The diameter of the tool rest convex circle and the hole spacing must be consistent with those of the lathe; otherwise, it will cause processing errors of the workpiece.
Maintenance suggestions : Regularly check the lubrication condition of the tool rest and add engine oil or grease; After fastening, test the rotation of the tool rest to ensure there is no abnormal noise.
