The ordinary lathe, relying on the core motion form of "workpiece rotation + tool feed", can complete various technological processes centered on rotary body processing and is one of the most widely used basic equipment in the field of mechanical processing.
Ⅰ. Basic turning processes
Turning the outer cylindrical surface : By means of axial feed of the tool, the outer cylindrical surface of shaft and disc workpieces is machined. It is divided into rough turning and finish turning stages, which can control the dimensional accuracy and surface roughness of the workpiece.
Turning end face : The tool feeds radially to process the end plane of the workpiece, ensuring the perpendicularity requirement between the end face and the axis.
conical surface : By means of offpositioning the tailstock, rotating the small slide plate, etc., the inner and outer conical surfaces that meet the Angle requirements are processed.
turning formed surface : Special rotary contours such as arcs and spheres are directly machined using forming turning tools.

Ⅱ. Hole processing techniques
Drilling/center hole : Install the drill bit on the tailstock of the lathe, and complete the drilling operation of solid workpieces as the workpiece rotates. It can also process the positioning center holes at both ends of shaft workpieces.
Boring : Use an internal hole turning tool to expand and finish the prefabricated hole, improving the dimensional accuracy and surface quality of the internal hole.
reaming : Perform micro-finishing on the machined hole with a reamer to further reduce the surface roughness value of the inner hole.
Ⅲ. Threads and Special Processes
Turning thread : By matching the workpiece speed with the tool feed rate through the lead screw drive of the lathe, it can process various internal and external threads such as metric and imperial ones, and is one of the classic processes in thread processing.
kembossing : By using a kembossing tool to squeeze the surface of a rotating workpiece, anti-slip mesh or straight patterns are pressed out. This is commonly seen in the processing of handle and knob parts.
Winding spring : With the help of special tools, metal wire is wound into spring components that meet the specifications on a lathe.
