In the mass production of hardware tools and small auto parts, drilling and milling machines, with their high flexibility, can quickly switch the processing procedures of different products, meeting the flexible production demands of multiple varieties and small batches. In the field of mold manufacturing, small CNC drilling and milling machines can complete the hole system processing of mold bases and the fine milling of parting surfaces, laying a solid foundation for subsequent precision processing. In the training workshops of colleges and vocational schools, drilling and milling machines are also the most common teaching equipment, helping students master both drilling and milling basic processing techniques simultaneously and understand the core logic of mechanical processing. Even in the production of aerospace components, small high-precision drilling and milling machines can complete the precise hole processing of small aluminum alloy components, meeting the requirements of special processing.

With the advancement of intelligent manufacturing, the drilling and milling machine industry is also constantly evolving and upgrading. By adopting linear guides, high-precision ball screws and full closed-loop control systems, the processing accuracy and stability of the new generation of CNC drilling and milling machines have approached those of professional drilling and milling machines, breaking the stereotype that "composite equipment has insufficient precision" in the past. On the other hand, the degree of automation integration is constantly increasing. More and more drilling and milling machines are beginning to be equipped with automatic loading and unloading devices and visual tool setting systems, and are connected to the factory's digital management network to achieve real-time collection and remote monitoring of processing data.

Meanwhile, greening is also an important development direction for drilling and milling machines. The new type of equipment reduces no-load energy consumption by optimizing the transmission structure, adopts a silent spindle to reduce operation noise, and is equipped with an efficient cutting fluid circulation system. This not only lowers energy consumption during the production process but also improves the working environment in the workshop. In the future, compound drilling and milling machines that integrate special processes such as 3D printing and ultrasonic processing will also gradually come into being, further expanding the capability boundaries of this classic equipment.

From the simple compound equipment at its inception to the core processing equipment integrated into the intelligent manufacturing system today, the development history of drilling and milling machines precisely reflects the development direction of the modern mechanical processing industry that emphasizes both efficiency and flexibility.
