Judge by the state of the sawdust
The shape of the sawdust produced during sawing is an important basis for judging the condition of the saw blade:
Ideal state : The sawdust is loose and coiled, indicating that the sawing conditions are appropriate and the saw blade is in good condition.
Abnormal state :
very fine or powder-like : This indicates that the feed rate should be increased or the saw band speed reduced; otherwise, it may accelerate the wear of the saw blade.
Thick, heavy or blue : It indicates that the saw blade is overloaded. The feed rate should be reduced or the saw band speed increased; otherwise, it may cause the saw blade to break.
Judge by the tension of the saw blade
Whether the tension of the saw blade is appropriate directly affects the sawing effect and the lifespan of the saw blade
Insufficient tension : This will cause the saw blade to be too loose during operation, making it prone to jumping and affecting the cutting quality
Excessive tension : It will cause the saw blade to be overly stretched, exceeding its elastic limit, which may lead to deformation of the saw blade, and even cause jumping and premature breakage
Detection method : It is recommended to use a tension meter for detection, or to determine by observing whether the saw blade rotates smoothly and if there is any abnormal jumping
Judge by the quality of the cut surface
The surface quality of the workpiece after processing is the direct criterion for judging the wear of the saw blade
An increase in surface roughness : When the surface roughness of the sawn workpiece increases by 2-3 grades compared to the normal situation (for example, from Ra3.2μm to Ra6.3-Ra12.5μm), it indicates that the cutting performance of the saw blade has deteriorated and it needs to be replaced
Abnormal lines : such as burrs, scratches or substandard surface finish, it indicates that the cutting edge of the tool is no longer sharp after wear, which is a direct basis for judgment
Other situations that require replacement
In addition to the above indicators, the saw blade needs to be replaced immediately in the following situations
Sawtooth wear : When the wear of the sawtooth reaches 30%-40% of the original tooth height, the sawing performance will decline significantly, and the saw blade should be replaced
Saw blade thickness wear : When the saw blade thickness wear exceeds 15%-20% of the original thickness, the rigidity and strength of the saw blade will be significantly insufficient, affecting the sawing quality and safety
Cracks appear : Once a band saw blade shows cracks, regardless of their size, it should be replaced immediately. This is because the cracks may rapidly expand during the high-speed operation of the saw blade and the force it bears during sawing, causing the saw blade to suddenly break and leading to a safety accident
It is hoped that these methods can help you accurately determine the condition of the saw blade on the sawing machine and ensure the safety and efficiency of the sawing work.
