The drilling machine is a core mechanical equipment used in modern industry for processing round holes in materials, and is widely applied in fields such as mechanical manufacturing, automobiles, aerospace, electronics and construction. It cuts the workpiece through a rotating drill bit to achieve various processing forms such as through holes, blind holes, reaming, boring and tapping.
The basic working principle of a drilling machine
The core operation mechanism of the drilling machine is "main motion + feed motion" :
The main motion : driven by the motor, the main shaft rotates, which in turn drives the drill bit to rotate at high speed to complete the cutting action.
Feed motion : By means of a manual handwheel or an automatic system, the rotating drill bit is vertically pressed into the workpiece, gradually forming a hole of the required depth.
Modern drilling machines generally adopt variable-frequency motors, which can automatically adjust the rotational speed according to different materials (such as aluminum alloy and stainless steel). For instance, when drilling aluminum alloy, the speed can reach 3000 revolutions per minute, while when processing stainless steel, it drops to 500 revolutions per minute, thereby enhancing precision and extending tool life.
Main types and their application scenarios
There are various types of drilling machines to meet different processing requirements:
Type | Feature | Applicable scene |
Bench drilling machine | It is small in size and easy to operate, with the maximum drilling diameter generally not exceeding 12mm | Small parts processing, maintenance and teaching experiments |
Vertical drilling machine | The main shaft is vertically arranged, with strong rigidity and supports automatic feed | Batch production of medium and large-sized workpieces, with hole diameters up to 50mm |
Radial drilling machine | The rocker arm can rotate and rise, and the spindle box can move horizontally, providing flexible positioning | For the multi-hole processing of large workpieces, there is no need to frequently move the workpieces |
Gun drilling machine | Equipped with a high-pressure cooling system, it can process holes with a depth-to-diameter ratio as high as 100:1 | Deep-hole parts such as engine blocks, gun barrels, and medical devices |
Digital controlled drill | The processing path is controlled by the program, supporting multi-axis linkage and automatic tool changing | High-precision and high-efficiency automated production, such as for aerospace components |
