How to determine if the stroke of the knife punching cylinder is appropriate?

The key to determining whether the stroke of the tool breaking cylinder is appropriate lies in the precise measurement of the ‌ tool ejector amount ‌ and the ‌ tool pressing amount ‌, as well as the reliability test of the ‌ tool changing action ‌.


I. Core Judgment Criteria

Tool tip (key indicator) ‌ :


Definition ‌ : The distance from the end face of the main shaft pull rod to the end face of the main shaft after the cylinder is fully extended.

Standard value ‌ : set according to the specifications of the tool holder (e.g. BT30: 0.2-0.4mm, BT40: 0.4-0.7mm, BT50: 0.5-1mm).

Measurement method ‌ : Use a depth micrometer or a special measuring tool to directly measure the distance from the end face of the pull rod to the end face of the main shaft.

Judgment ‌ : It must be within the range corresponding to the specification of the knife handle. If it is too small, it will cause the tool to be unable to come off after loosening. If it is too large, it may distort the tool changing mechanism.

Knife pressure (for verification) ‌ :


Definition ‌ : The amount of compression between the pressure block and the main shaft pull rod when the pressure block of the tool cylinder presses against the pull rod.

Judgment ‌ : Usually judged by touch or experience, the pressure block should be able to reliably press the pull rod, but there should be no obvious excessive elastic deformation. After adjusting the distance between the pressure blocks, a knife test needs to be conducted for verification.

Ⅱ. Practical Verification Steps

Test ‌ after initial adjustment:


Insert the tool holder into the spindle and manually press the tool release button.

Visual inspection ‌ : The tool holder should be able to protrude smoothly and completely from the main shaft hole without jamming or tilting.

Signal confirmation ‌ : Check whether the loose knife/tight knife signal detection switch operates accurately at the limit position of the pressure rod (such as hearing the spring plate bounce sound).

Final reliability check ‌ :


Empty run test ‌ : Execute the automatic tool changing (ATC) program and observe whether the entire tool changing process is smooth and interference-free.

Load test ‌ : Install standard tools on the spindle, perform actual cutting operations, and observe the stability of tool changing.

Safety inspection ‌ : Ensure that the tail end of the main shaft broaching rod does not come into contact with the clamping thread to avoid operational friction.

Ⅲ. Precautions

Adjustment sequence ‌ : First, adjust the top knife quantity, then the pressure knife quantity, and finally verify the limit switch.

Repeated verification ‌ : After each adjustment, a knife test must be conducted until a stable and reliable state is achieved.

Safety first ‌ : Be sure to cut off the power when making adjustments and follow the equipment operation procedures. Personnel should stay away from dangerous areas during the test.
