Ⅰ. Structural Composition and Characteristics of Turret Milling Machines
1. Structural composition
The turret milling machine is mainly composed of the base, machine body, milling head, worktable, middle slide seat, lifting slide seat and other parts.
(1). Base and body: As the fundamental supporting components of the machine tool, the base and body are usually cast from high-strength materials, such as Mihanite cast iron, and undergo artificial aging treatment to ensure the stability and rigidity of the machine tool during long-term use.
(2). Milling head: This is one of the core components of the turret milling machine and is equipped with a turret milling head. The milling head can be adjusted ±45° in the vertical plane and rotate 360° in the horizontal plane, greatly expanding the processing range of the machine tool. The spindle is equipped with both manual and micro-motion feed methods, which is convenient and accurate for processing. Different types of spindles such as R8, NT30, and NT40 can also be selected according to requirements.
(3). Worktable: The worktable can move in three directions: longitudinal (X-axis), transverse (Y-axis), and vertical (Z-axis). It features three feed modes: manual feed, motorized feed, and motorized rapid feed. Motorized feed offers eight different feed speeds to meet various processing requirements. The X-direction travel of the worktable can reach 800mm, and the guide rail pairs in the X, Y and Z directions have undergone ultrasonic frequency quenching, precision grinding and scraping treatment, which improves the accuracy and service life.
(4). Middle slide seat and lifting slide seat: The middle slide seat drives the worktable to move laterally, while the lifting slide seat drives the worktable to move up and down vertically. Their motion accuracy and stability directly affect the processing quality of the workpiece.
2. Structural Features
(1). High flexibility: The multi-angle adjustment and rotation function of the milling head, as well as the multi-directional movement of the worktable, enable the turret milling machine to process various complex-shaped parts, breaking the limitation of single-plane processing of ordinary milling machines and truly achieving "universal milling".
(2). Strong stability: The main components are cast from high-strength materials and undergo artificial aging treatment, effectively eliminating internal stress in the castings and reducing the deformation of the equipment after long-term use. Meanwhile, the guide rail pairs of the machine tool have undergone special treatment, which enhances their wear resistance and precision retention.
(3). Easy operation: The machine tool operating system is suspended on the upper right of the machine tool through a support arm, which conforms to the ergonomic principle and is easy to operate. The operation panel adopts a visual symbol design, which is simple and intuitive. Novices can operate independently after a short period of training. In addition, the combination of manual and motorized feed methods not only meets the rapid feed requirements of rough machining but also is suitable for the micro-adjustment of finish machining.
Diverse functions: The turret milling machine integrates functions such as drilling, milling, boring, reaming, and tapping. It can complete the entire process operation from hole processing to plane and contour milling without the need to switch equipment, making it suitable for the processing of small-batch and multi-process parts.
Ⅱ. Working Principle of Turret Milling Machine The processing logic of turret milling machine follows the industrial cutting standard of "main motion + feed motion".
1. Main movement
The main motion, which refers to the high-speed rotational motion of the milling cutter driven by the spindle, is the core power for achieving metal cutting. The spindle motor transmits power to the spindle through a precise transmission mechanism. The rotational speed can be flexibly adjusted according to the processing material and tool specifications to meet the requirements of different working conditions such as rough milling and finish milling. The runout accuracy and rigidity of the spindle directly determine the milling surface finish and processing accuracy, and are one of the core indicators for evaluating the quality of turret milling machines.
2.Feed motion
Feed motion is the precise displacement of the workpiece in three-dimensional space driven by the worktable, which is divided into three directions: longitudinal (X-axis), transverse (Y-axis), and vertical (Z-axis). By switching among manual feed, motorized feed and micro-feed modes, it can not only meet the rapid feed requirements during rough machining to improve processing efficiency, but also make micro-adjustments during finish machining to ensure processing accuracy.
